EV Proficiencies

How I have demonstrated....
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to problem solving
When studying the environment and the interaction of ecological systems, it is imperative to understand the empirical significance as well as the socio-economic impacts of policy decisions.  This paper, written as the final research project for Andy Dunham's Public Policymaking course, concerns the interaction between sovereign states sharing trans-boundary water resources, and the implications behind the failure of the international community to address multiple examples of river basin hegemons ignoring established international statutes.  The paper combines quantitative indicators of scarcity (i.e. water availability, amount of arable farmland, demographic figures, and projected climate change impacts) with a qualitative analysis of the current societal trends (i.e. level of insurgent activity, migratory patterns, and local opinions) to draw a picture wherein a dominant actor/country undermines the stability of another by creating unequal resource distributions.  By initiating a discussion of the relationship between environmental issues and societal issues, a larger picture can be drawn explaining why these issues occur in the first place.  Enjoy!
